About the project
A house built around a hidden courtyard.
The house closes itself to the street and opens inwards, onto a courtyard garden in a Japanese spirit. It wraps around the courtyard on three sides, so the garden is sheltered and can only be seen from inside. Long stone slabs cross a bed of white gravel between large boulders, low pines, shrubs and tall grasses. A timber bench and low lights make it a place to stop, and every main room looks into it through floor-toceiling glass.
This series of 18 architectural renderings explores the house from its woodland setting to the intimate details of its garden paths, sheltered entrances and warm timber surfaces.
